Introduction: Emotion dysregulation is a transdiagnostic marker for vulnerability and has high comorbidity rates across various range of disorders among adolescents and young adults, highlighting the crucial need for precise assessment tools to recognize its significant impact on well-being. The Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale Short Form (DERS-SF) is a comprehensive instrument designed to measure the ability to regulate emotion. This study aimed to investigate the psychometric properties of DERS-SF among the non-clinical population, particularly high school and university students in Indonesia. Methods: A total of 738 senior high school and university students completed the Indonesian version of DERS-SF and standard questionnaires to assess its validity, consisting of the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS), the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) for young adults and the Children Depression Inventory (CDI) for adolescents. Three models were examined in factorial validity tests using confirmatory factor analysis. Results: The results showed that DERS-SF had an overall good internal consistency with Cronbach's alpha coefficient of.89 for the 18-item version,.90 for the 17-item version, and.91 for the 15-item version. Test-retest reliability was moderate with a value of.67. In addition, it had good satisfactory content as shown by item content validity index (I-CVI) = .96 and scale content validity index (S-CVI) = .83, as well as convergent validity. All subscales scores showed a positive and strong correlation with DASS, BDI-II, and CDI except awareness. Based on confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), the correlated 6-factor model excluding item number 6, and the 5-factor model excluding awareness were suitable to use in non-clinical populations. Conclusion: This study established the removal of the awareness subscale in the DERS-SF Indonesian version, resulting in better reliability and validity than the original version with complete subscales.

Introduction: Transitional-aged youths (17-to-24-years-old) are prone to mental-health problems. Students in higher education, especially medical students, are more exposed to stressors and thus need training to increase resilience. However, there have been limited mental-health strengthening modules specifically developed for medical students of transitional age, and none in Indonesia. This study intends to test the effectiveness of an online mental-health strengthening module in altering resilience. Methods: A pragmatic randomized trial with repeated measurements was employed to evaluate biopsychosocial outcomes of resilience. The intervention module was delivered in 4 weeks to 105 eligible students. Participants were divided into intervention group (n = 52) and control group (n = 53). Outcomes were measured in the 4th, 8th, and 12th weeks. Primary outcome was resilience level as measured by Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS) were utilized to measure stress, depression and anxiety. Knowledge and attitude toward mental-health were also measured through validated questionnaires. Stress levels of participants were measured biologically by measuring salivary cortisol and alpha-amylase levels at the baseline and 12th-week. Results: Compared to the control group, there were no significant difference in resilience score of the intervention group compared to control group [F(1, 103) = 2.243, P = .137]; however, there was a significant main effect of time [F(3, 309) = 18.191, P < .001] and interaction effect between intervention and time in resilience score [F(3, 309) = 5.056, P = .002]. Additionally, compared to the control group, there were significant increases in knowledge [F(1, 103) = 66.805, P < .001], attitudes and behavior towards mental-health [F(1, 103) = 5.191, P = .025], and a significant decrease in stress perception score [F(1, 103) = 27.567, P < .001]. The mean salivary delta cortisol during pre-test and post-test at week 12 in the intervention group showed significant difference (P < .001). However, there was no significant difference in the mean delta salivary alpha-amylase between pre-test and post-test at week 12, both in the intervention and control groups. Conclusion: The mental-health strengthening module was accepted and applicable to first-year medical students and was found to be effective in increasing resilience from various biopsychosocial aspects. It is also advisable to have similar modules throughout the medical school to maintain sustainability.

Objective: The study aims to analyze the correlation between sleep quality and adolescent mental health in rural areas during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Bandung rural area in February 2023. The subjects were adolescents aged 12-15 years who attended high school in Sagaracipta Village. To assess mental health, the Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) was used. Meanwhile, sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire. The questionnaires were distributed and then filled in directly by the participants under close supervision. The relationship between mental problems and sleep quality was analyzed with the Spearman Rank correlation. The confidence range employed was 95%, while p< 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The results showed that at two junior high schools in Sagaracipta Village, 70.6% of the 109 subjects had poor sleep quality. Among the subjects, a significant number exhibited abnormal scores on various subscales. Specifically, 24 subjects (22%) showed abnormalities in the emotional subscales, 18 (16.5%) in conduct, 5 (4.6%) in hyperactivity, 15 (13.8%) in problems with peers, 26 (23.9%) in total difficulty, but there were no abnormal subjects on the pro-social sunscale. Based on the Rank Spearman correlation test, there was a statistically significant correlation between sleep quality and the emotional, behavioral, hyperactivity, and overall difficulties subscales, with coefficients of 0.247; 0.258; 0.22; and 0.310 as well as p-values of 0.010; 0.007; 0.021; and 0.001 respectively. Conclusion: During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a correlation between mental health and sleep quality among adolescents in rural area.

Background: Endorphin is a biological change in molecular physiology that is commonly connected with anxiety. An increase in the level of anxiety is caused by both an increase and a decrease in the number of endorphins that are present in the brain; however, up until this point, it has never been reported that there is a relationship between the level of anxiety and the influence of interval training. Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of training interval on endorphin level and anxiety degrees of secaba student soldiers with moderate degrees of anxiety. Methods: The subject of the study was a student soldier of Secaba Rindam III Siliwangi with moderate anxiety. The subject of the study gets information about the objectives and procedures of the study. Subjects who are willing to participate in the study sign informed consent. The next step was that group 1 was given an interval training treatment 3 times a week for 12 weeks and group 2 was given continuous training treatment. Results: The results showed that there was a difference where interval training is better than continuous training against increasing endorphin levels (30.9111.733 vs. 39.6519.956; p=0.043). The degree of anxiety decreased significantly after being given interval training treatment (64.64±3.671 vs. 29.50±4.165; p=0.0001). Similarly, there was a significant difference (p=0.027; p<0.05) where the treatment in the interval training group was better than that of the continuous training group against a decrease in the degree of anxiety. Conclusion: Interval training can increase endorphin levels in Secaba Rindam III Siliwangi Student Soldiers with Moderate Anxiety and Interval Training can lower the Degree of Anxiety in Secaba Rindam III Siliwangi Student Soldiers with Moderate Anxiety.

INTRODUCTION: Suicide is one of the leading cause of mortality among adolescents and young adults, especially in low to middle-income countries. Research found that screening for suicidal ideation in non-clinical populations such as schools or communities is an important step toward preventing suicide. Despite so, not all screening tools have the capabilities to accurately detect suicidal ideation among adolescents and young adults in non-clinical populations. The Suicidal Ideation Scale (SIS) is one of the most used questionnaires to measure suicidal thoughts in non-clinical populations. This study aims to investigate the psychometric properties of SIS among adolescents and young adults in Indonesia, especially in non-clinical populations. METHODS: After a series of language and cultural adaptations, 1254 senior high school and university students completed the Indonesian version of SIS using 3 standard questionnaires, namely Patient Health Questionnaire-9/PHQ-9, Beck Depression Inventory-II/BDI-II, and Children's Depression Inventory/CDI. The SIS content validity, internal consistency, test-retest reliability and concurrent, as well as internal structure validity, were investigated using content validity index (CVI), Cronbach's Alpha, Pearson product-moment correlation, and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), respectively. RESULTS: The result showed that SIS has good to excellent internal consistency and test-retest reliability. Based on the validity indicators, it has satisfactory content and convergent validity, and further support the one-factor and 2-factor model for factorial validity. Both one-factor and 2 factor model are suitable to use in non-clinical settings. CONCLUSIONS: SIS is a valid and reliable tool for suicide ideation screening in adolescents and young adults in non-clinical populations. This validated questionnaire can be used in the early detection of suicidal ideation among adolescents and young adults in non-clinical populations, thus contributing to developing strategies and policies to prevent suicide among Indonesian adolescents and young adults at group and institutional levels.

Suicide remains one of the leading causes of death among youths and the commonly reported associated risk factor is interpersonal needs, which consists of perceived burdensomeness and thwarted belongingness. To date, there is no validated interpersonal needs questionnaire in Indonesia. Therefore, this research aims to validate and evaluate the psychometric properties of the Interpersonal Needs Questionnaire (INQ-15) among adolescents and young adults in the Indonesian language. Based on the results, the INQ-15 has high internal consistency and test-retest reliability. It was also found to have satisfactory content and concurrent validity, as well as support two factor model of factorial validity. This implies that The Indonesian version of the INQ-15 is a valid and reliable questionnaire to measure the interpersonal needs among adolescents and young adults, both in clinical and research applications.

Mental health in adolescents represent a considerable public health issue in developing countries. These problems are considered a source of problem for adolescents' quality of life. The study objective was to determine the association between mental health problems and sociodemographic variables among adolescents. A cross-sectional study was conducted from October to December 2016 using a school-based survey in 4 districts and 3 cities in West Java Province, Indonesia. Stratified multistage random sampling was used to select junior and senior high school students and self-administered questionnaires were used to collect study data which included: personal data, socioeconomic status scale, and self-reported version of Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) which divided into 5 subscales. About 3452 adolescents of 32 schools were included in this study, 59% female, 56% junior high school, 56% district residence, most parents' education were senior high school. The prevalence of mental health problems based on SDQ subscale as total difficulties, conduct problem, emotional symptoms, peer problems, hyperactivity-inattention, were abnormal 31.6, 38.9, 30, 29.3, 15.6, respectively. Mental health problems were more prevalent amongst adolescents in junior high school and residence in district area, with RR and 95% CI were 1.14 (1.04-1.26), and 1.18 (1.08-1.30). As conclusions mental health problems in adolescents were associated with education level and residence area.

"Transitional-age youth" describes those whose ages range from 16-24 years old. In this phase, the youth face new challenges and new experiences which may increase the risk for having mental health problems, yet not very many seek help from mental health professionals. In Indonesia, no data are available about mental health problems and the needs of transitional-age youth. This study explores common mental health problems experienced during this stage and assesses how they cope with problems and their expectations from health services. This was a cross-sectional study involving 393 Indonesians aged 16-24 years in May 2020. More than 90% of students had financial and academic difficulties and felt lonely. The most prevalent mental health problem among students was anxiety (95.4%). Most of the students, ranging from 90% to 96.4%, had positive coping strategies. However, around 50% of respondents reported self-harming and having suicidal thoughts. The results of subcategories analysis between ages and faculties were similar. Their most important expectations from mental health services included confidentiality (99.2%) and being welcoming and friendly (99.2%). In conclusion, this study highlighted the most common problems transitional-age youth experience in Indonesia. While some of them already knew how to deal with their problems, not all the participants had good coping mechanisms. Their healthcare expectations were also explored, thereby providing a useful background to revise and amend the current conditions.

Background and Aim: Mental health is an integral part of adolescent wellbeing. However, only few adolescents understand the importance of mental health and are aware of the right time to seek help. Lack of knowledge and stigma may impede help-seeking behavior. To assess these aspects, three questionnaires have been developed in the English language. This study aims to assess the validity and reliability of an Indonesian version of the Mental Health Literacy and Help-Seeking Behavior set of questionnaires among adolescents in Indonesia. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study that used The Mental Health Literacy and Help-Seeking Behavior set of questionnaires developed by Kutcher and Wei. The set consists of three questionnaires: the Mental Health Knowledge, Attitude Toward Mental Health, and Help-Seeking Behavior questionnaire. The study was conducted between October 2020 and January 2021 with 68 first-year medical students at the University of Indonesia, who represented adolescents in a transitional phase. The questionnaires were translated into the Indonesian language by a bilingual psychiatrist and reviewed by 10 expert psychiatrists to determine content validity [Item-Level Content Validity Index (I-CVI) and Scale-Level Content Validity Index (S-CVI)]. Cronbach's alpha values were used to assess internal consistency (reliability). Results: The content validity test produced positive results with an I-CVI scores of 0.7-1.0 and S-CVI scores of 0.87, 0.90, and 0.99 for the knowledge, attitude, and help-seeking behavior questionnaires, respectively. For the reliability test, Cronbach's alpha values were 0.780 for the attitude questionnaire and 0.852 for the help-seeking behavior questionnaire, while the value for the knowledge questionnaire was 0.521. Conclusion: The ability to properly measure mental health through the availability of accessible, valid, and understandable tools plays an important role in addressing mental health issues among adolescents. In the current study, the Indonesian translations of all three questionnaires examining knowledge, attitude, and help-seeking behavior were considered to be valid and reliable.

BACKGROUND: The need for improving knowledge and practice of palliative care delivered by health workers become an agenda in several countries. In order to measure the practice, an instrument is needed. The study analyzed the validity and reliability of the instrument to assess the physician's practice in the management of patients with terminal diseases. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study involving 89 physicians practicing in primary health care. The instrument of practice has been developed and resulted 5 domains consist of 20 items. An overview of reliability, construct validity, uni-dimensionality, and hierarchy of the person-items of the instrument were analyzed using Rasch Model. RESULTS: The reliability of the instrument is excellent with a person measure reliability of 0.85 and the item measure reliability of 0.96. Construct validity is confirmed with the MNSQ outfit values in the range of 0.54 to 1.59 and Pt Measure Corr. values in the range of 0.31 to 0.8. This instrument has a value of more than 20% unidimensionality which indicates the level of independence for items is good. CONCLUSION: The instrument has good validity and reliability to assess physician's practice in the management of patients with terminal disease.

BACKGROUND: Depression is one of the most prevalent mental health problems among adolescents. Mental health problems might be the result of child abuse considering that their prevalences are increasing simultaneously in Indonesia. The aim of this study was to determine the association between depression and a history of abuse among adolescents. METHODS: An analytic cross-sectional study was conducted on 786 junior high school students from Bandung City, West Java, Indonesia. Subjects were selected using two-stage cluster sampling. The Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) and the ISPCAN Child Abuse Screening Tool (ICAST) questionnaires were applied to assess depression and a history of abuse, respectively. Depression was diagnosed by a psychiatrist after a positive score on the CDI. The data were analysed using chi-square tests and multiple regression. RESULTS: A history of child abuse was associated with depression in adolescents. All dimensions of child abuse had a significant association with depression. Psychological violence had the highest risk factor for the occurrence of depression (PR = 6.51), followed by exposure to violence and physical violence. Sexual violence was not a common dimension of child abuse among students. Psychological violence had the strongest association with depression, and victims were three times more likely to develop depression (POR = 3.302, p = 0.004). CONCLUSION: Psychological violence was proven to be a strong risk factor for developing depression symptoms among adolescent students. While each victimization domain remained a significant predictor of depression, the experience of multiple domains during a child's life-course may predict mental health risk. Early detection and interventions to prevent abuse and its consequences are critical.

OBJECTIVE: In Indonesia, palliative care has not been uniformly implemented at all levels of healthcare facilities. Healthcare personnel play an important role in providing that care. This study aimed to explore the current conditions and expectations regarding palliative care from the perspective of healthcare personnel. RESULTS: A qualitative study was conducted with 12 physicians and five nurses from December 2017 to June 2018. In-depth interviews of these professionals were conducted. The responses were subjected to inductive thematic analysis, generating five themes and 24 subthemes. The themes were (1) family and environment, including barriers and contributions to palliative care; (2) numbers and competence of healthcare providers; (3) accessibility of palliative care; (4) case management of patient's and family's problems by healthcare personnel; and (5) barriers or enabling factors from the healthcare system. Patients, family members, and healthcare personnel contribute to case management. Attention must be paid to improving access and the healthcare system for thorough implementation of palliative care.
